Scarlett Breeding and John Alt met while teaching architecture and interior design at the university of North Carolina, Greensboro. They moved to Annapolis with the intention of transitioning from teaching to practicing the art of designing and building profoundly beautiful and useful places. Jay Schwarz grew up in the Annapolis region on the Chesapeake Bay. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Jay did corporate turns in NYC as well as Baltimore before returning to his “roots” – opening a small multi-disciplined architecture practice.
After a number of highly successful large institutional projects done in association with each other – Jay, Scarlett and John merged their firms in 1997.
Two-plus decades later their efforts have established one of the premier architectural practices in the Chesapeake Bay-Washington, DC region. Over the years, the practice has come to focus on creating extraordinary town and waterfront residences, signature corporate and institutional buildings and interiors – architectural casework and exquisite kitchens, – and, always, the highest caliber of client-care that can be delivered.
